Our Mission
Our mission is to use education to lift a child, and his or her family, out of poverty in rural Costa Rica. Today we provide 29 full and partial scholarships for local children of Nosara to attend Del Mar Academy, a private bilingual school with Montessori program in the lower grades and International Baccalaureate accreditation for the diploma years, located in Nosara, Costa Rica.
Less than 50% of children in Costa Rica finish high school, and among those who do, their education is sub-standard. Many schools are so underfunded and overcrowded that children only attend a half-day, and often not a full week. Generation after generation continues to live in poverty, bouncing among low-paying jobs - or no jobs at all - in order to support extended family.
The Scholarship Program offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a child to receive a high-quality, bilingual education that will lead to college, and one day soon, a professional career. This shift in one family member receiving a quality education creates a ripple effect, creating a passion for education for future generations.
With two of our scholarship recipients recently graduated with the Bilingual International Baccalaureate, already we can see the promise of our high school scholarship students and their bright futures. One education can truly make a difference.
